Here is a beautifully HAND CARVED Papa Hou, carved from Mahogany wood, this beautiful piece has been sealed with a coat of varnish to complement its natural beauty.
 
The underside of the Lid has 2 dowel rods to keep the lid inplace. The inside of this beautiful piece has a woven mat to line the bottom which is removable and easy to clean.

History-
Papa hou are treasure containers made and used by Māori – These treasure containers stored a person's most prized personal possessions, such as hei-tiki, feathers for decorating and dressing the hair such as the tail feathers of the huia, heru and other items of personal adornment. Papa hou were imbued with the tapu of their owners because the boxes contained personal items that regularly came into contact with the body, particularly the head (the most tapu part of the body) and were usually hung from rafters high in maori homes so thier beauty could be admired. Papa Hou are commonly passed through Generations.
